Le Jardin Secret Marrakech

Mouassine

Le Jardin Secret Marrakech, also known as the Secret Garden, combines historic riad architecture with two distinctive gardens in the medina. Located on Rue Mouassine, it offers visitors an opportunity to explore Moroccan garden design, traditional craftsmanship and the important role of water in the city’s heritage.

History of Le Jardin Secret

The site’s origins date to the Saadian period in the 16th century. A new palace was built here during the 19th century, following the layout of the earlier complex. Following restoration, its gardens and buildings now welcome visitors exploring Marrakech’s architectural heritage.

The Islamic Garden and Exotic Garden

Le Jardin Secret contains two contrasting green spaces. The exotic garden brings together plants from different parts of the world, while the Islamic garden follows a geometric layout associated with traditional riad gardens.

Walk through the garden paths, observe the planting and enjoy the relationship between shaded spaces, fountains and surrounding pavilions.

Architecture and Historic Water Features

Look for zellige tilework, carved plaster, cedarwood and traditional tadelakt finishes. The buildings reveal the craftsmanship behind Marrakech’s historic residences.

The site also preserves elements of an original water-distribution system. Channels, reservoirs and pipes help explain how water once supplied the gardens, fountains and other parts of the residence.

The Tower and Views over Marrakech

An optional tower visit offers views across the medina and its surroundings. The Atlas Mountains may also be visible when conditions allow.

Tower access requires an additional ticket and is prohibited for children under six. Ask staff about availability and the time assigned to your tower visit.
